Our future founder, Erich Weiß, works as a lead engineer at the then-world market leader in hydraulics, Vickers. Here, his fascination for transitioning from complex piping systems to advanced block construction begins to take shape.

Founded in 1984, Ekomat is now operated as a family business in its third generation. Our values have consistently remained the same: customer proximity, reliability, and flexibility. As a family-owned company, we particularly value our dedicated team. That’s why we pursue a clear guiding principle: responsible action. For us, respectful and supportive collaboration is the foundation of long-term success.

As this transformation within the corporation was only slowly being implemented, the path to independence became clear. In 1984, the first production facility was established in the basement of Erich Weiß's nephew's house, covering 40 square meters. In the following years, the focus was on the design and manufacture of control blocks.
Ekomat grows rapidly, leading to the construction of a new company building in Karben equipped with a modern machine park. With the installation of test benches, control blocks are increasingly equipped with valves and delivered tested. Additionally, the first compact units are built.
To seize new market opportunities, particularly in the international arena, and to demonstrate the high quality and efficiency of our business processes, we have achieved certification according to the ISO 9001 standard. .
Ekomat receives the Hessian Innovation Prize for Environmental Technology for its hydraulic unit used to control wind turbines. To this day, wind turbines remain a central application area for our solutions.
After over 10 years as Managing Director at Barksdale Inc., industrial engineer Ralf Zwiener joins the management team at Ekomat. With him comes the introduction of new business areas, particularly in measurement technology.
By taking on the exclusive representation of Fluid Components International Inc. (FCI) in Germany, Ekomat further expands its offerings in measurement technology.
To consistently advance internationalization, Shanghai EKOMAT Engineering & Technology Co., Ltd. is established, marking a direct presence in China. Today, approximately half of Ekomat's customers are located abroad.
As part of a comprehensive modernization and expansion of production, a new production hall is built. This enables the spatial separation of our CNC machine park and the newly established assembly area in a cell structure.
Robin Zwiener grew up in the family business. After studying business administration and gaining experience in the defense industry as an executive assistant and Manager of Strategy & Transformation, he returned to the family company in 2025.
